Susan Anderson

Birth Name Susan Anderson
Gender female
Age at Death about 69 years, 1 month

It is not clear why Susan left Norfolk or even when, it is also not clear if her sister Sarah travelled with her or arrived later.

She might have left because of the high poverty levels in Norfolk at that time, one conjecture is that the sisters planned to go to Liverpool and emigrate to America, they probably walked the 200km, perhaps getting occasional work on the way to pay for food and lodging. There is no proof of any of this.

The known facts.
From her marriage certificate she was living in Malpas, Cheshire at the beginning of 1840, her husband was an Innkeeper in Bangor, this was probably the Oak Inn as they were both there in 1851, at that time the adult population of Bangor stood at 100, and there were six public houses, New Inn, Ship Inn, Red Lion, Oak Inn, Buck Inn and Star Inn.

The 1841 census records for Bangor is y coed are mostly missing, including the Oak Inn, so it is not possible to confirm they were there in 1841 or see if her sister Sarah was there. Sarah is listed in 1851 but is not mentioned as a witness on the marriage certificate, although that is not proof she was not there.
